“Do you want to tell us anything else about you?” is a typical job interview question used to close the interview. Don’t worry, it’s not a trick! This interview question is an opportunity to summarize everything you have already said and reinforce why you’re the right person for the job.
It’s kind of like a closing statement for you to reflect on everything you’ve already said. Also, don’t be afraid to repeat important parts of your experience. This is your last chance to show you’re the right person for the job, so use this opportunity wisely.
How do you answer “Tell me something about yourself?”
When deciding how to answer “Do you want to tell us anything else about you?” you need to understand how to answer “Tell Me About Yourself”. Both questions are challenging because they’re open-ended and can easily spiral off into a tangent.
Usually, “Tell Me About Yourself” is the first question asked at the beginning of the job interview. If you get this question right, you will start the interview at a good pace.
The first thing to remember is to keep your answer relevant to the job description. When the interviewer asks “Tell Me About Yourself” they want to hear about your work experience, so try not to tell them about your love for dogs.
Decide on 3 or 4 key roles within the past ten years of your career. Talk about the strengths and skills you gained from these roles, then finish on your present or previous role. Summarize with what you hope to do next and tell them you want to progress.
“Do you want to tell us anything else about you?”
Now you understand how to talk about yourself in a job interview, let’s come back to “Do you want to tell us anything else about you?”
Pick important points you’ve already spoken about and reinforce them with some further examples.
“Yes, I’d love to go back to my time spent at Cansdale Limited. As I said before, my communication skills have led to some great achievements. I managed teams of 8 across 4 functions to ensure tasks were delegated and completed in efficiency which lead to a 30% growth in revenue”
Don’t be afraid to ask them a question…
“I actually had a question for you…”
You could also use this as an opportunity to re-answer previous questions.
“I’d like to add something to your question about my leadership strategy…”
Takeaways
Remember to always keep your answer relevant to the job description and company, but don’t be afraid to show some personality. At this stage of the job interview you’ve demonstrated your capabilities, now it’s time to show them who they’ll be hiring.
Be yourself!
